Volunteer Programs for Secondary SchoolsHandbook acknowledgements by Mary Woolsey Lewis I want to thank Dr. Herman Ohme, principal at Cubberley High
School, Palo Alto, California, where the Volunteers in Education
Program was initiated. Without his vision, support, and enthusiasm,
the program would never have grown from the first twelve volunteers,
each of whom gave three hours a week, to its gratifying size today,
where one volunteer alone contributed over nine hundred hours of
service during one school year.
